Define the exact configuration

Record the model family, advertised reference, case diameter, thickness, dial, bezel, bracelet and movement. Save the listing date and the seller's written answers. Two watches with the same general name can have different dimensions or mechanisms, so compare the configuration rather than the headline.

Choose the features that matter to your use. A time-only watch needs a different check from a travel GMT or a chronograph. Use the model-family guide to narrow the comparison before examining finishing details.

Request useful photos and measurements

  • A clear front view that shows the complete dial, hands, indices and calendar windows.
  • Side views showing the case profile, crown, pushers where fitted, and how the bracelet joins the case.
  • Views of the clasp open and closed, bracelet underside and removable links.
  • Measured diameter and thickness with an explanation of what was included in the measurement.
  • Confirmation that the images show the offered configuration, with unit-specific evidence where available.

Look for consistent lighting and enough resolution to assess alignment and surface condition. Stock photos help illustrate a design but cannot document the supplied unit. Image compression, reflections and perspective can also distort small details; request another view before drawing a firm conclusion.

Inspect comfort and construction

Ask whether a gold-colored finish is plating, coating or another treatment. Do not infer solid precious metal from a color, weight claim or model name. Materials and finishing are separate questions, and any laboratory test should identify the item tested.

Verify the functions you plan to use

Request the actual operating instructions. For calendars, establish how the day and date set and change. For GMT watches, identify which hand adjusts independently. For chronographs, establish what each counter displays and request a start, stop and reset demonstration following the fitted movement's instructions.

Record claims about accuracy and reserve separately from observations. A seller demonstration is useful evidence of that demonstration, but it is not independent testing. The movement guide explains how to read rate measurements and why a calibre-style name needs context.

Treat water resistance as a separate check

A screw-down crown, diving-style bezel or copied depth marking does not document a replica's seal. Ask for a recent pressure-test report tied to the actual watch, including the test method, pressure and date. If testing is unavailable, record the water-resistance claim as unverified and keep the watch away from water until assessed.

The official Rolex care guidance describes genuine Rolex watches. It is not evidence that a third-party replica meets the same rating or should follow the same service schedule.

Check support before deciding

Read the return deadline, condition requirements, repair exclusions, shipping responsibilities and process for reporting a faulty function. Keep the description and written terms with your records. Ask a watchmaker whether they can service the identified movement before assuming that repair support is available locally.

For each requirement, mark the result as documented, demonstrated, independently checked or unknown. A useful decision comes from the evidence for your priorities, not a made-up overall score. If you need a genuine watch, this replica checklist is not an authentication service; follow official buying guidance and obtain appropriate professional assessment.
